Where we are, and where we hope to go
Right now, we are a place for fosters. That is the honest description of what Rangerās Last Resort is today.
Dogs in our care are fostered personally, wherever they are needed. Some come to us as direct surrenders. Some are sent by rescues we network with and legally belong to those rescues until they are adopted. We place them into vetted homes, we support those placements, and we do all of it under our own roof and our own name as private individuals.
The goal
We are working toward 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Articles of incorporation are being prepared for filing in Franklin County, Ohio, and we will apply for tax-exempt status once the corporation is formed.
This is early. Nonprofit formation is a long process with a lot of paperwork and a waiting period at the end of it, and nothing is guaranteed until the IRS says so. We are not going to pretend it is closer than it is.
But it is the hopeful goal of all of this, and here is what it would unlock:
- Direct intake under our own name. Today we work through personal fostering and partner rescues. As a recognized nonprofit we could pull dogs directly, with priority on those already on a euthanasia list or headed for one, before the clock runs out on them.
- The ability to accept tax-deductible donations, which is what lets an organization fund veterinary care, containment, transport, and everything else at any real scale.
- A foster program of our own. Right now, fostering happens here, with us. A nonprofit could build and support a network of foster homes.
Transport
Transport help for the dogs we take in to foster is always welcome, especially runs out of California and Texas. If you can drive a leg or offer an overnight hold, we would like to hear from you now.
Transport becomes far more important the moment we can pull directly. Getting a dog off a list in another state and across the country is one of the hardest and most necessary parts of this work, and it is the part that scales the instant the rest of it does.

The dogs in front of us still need homes. If you want to help right now, the most useful thing you can do is meet the dogs who are available, or get in touch about transport, gear, or a professional skill.
