We cannot accept money yet. Here is what actually helps in the meantime.
Gear, which we always need
Working breeds are large, strong, and hard on equipment. Almost everything we use is sized medium through XL, and almost everything wears out. Donated gear goes straight to the dogs.
- Crates, especially heavy-duty and escape-resistant. High-drive dogs destroy wire crates
- Harnesses and collars, medium through XL
- Leads and long lines, including biothane and traffic leads
- Basket muzzles, sized for shepherd and malinois snouts. Properly conditioned muzzles are a welfare tool, not a punishment, and good ones are expensive
- Beds and orthopedic mats, particularly for seniors and dogs with hip and joint problems
- Durable toys and enrichment. Rubber chew toys, flirt poles, snuffle mats, puzzle feeders
- Food and water troughs, elevated feeders, and stainless bowls
- Fencing materials. Containment is the single biggest ongoing cost of working with escape-artist breeds
Used is fine as long as it is clean and structurally sound. Write to us and we will tell you honestly whether we can use it.
Money
Please do not donate money to us. We are not a nonprofit yet, a donation to us would not be tax-deductible, and we would rather your money do the most good it can.
If you would rather give money than gear, get in touch and we will point you to the rescues we network with, so you can donate to them directly. That is where a dollar has the most immediate impact right now: real 501(c)(3) organizations, already running, already pulling dogs. When our own status comes through, this will change, and we will say so.
Skills, which are worth more than gear
If you do any of the following professionally, an hour of your time is worth more to these dogs than most cash donations would be.
- Veterinary care. Discounted or donated spay, neuter, vaccination, dental, diagnostics, and surgery
- Training and behavior. We do our own training, and it never hurts to have more experienced hands and more resources for these dogs. Extra support is always welcome from vetted volunteers, especially anyone versed in bite history, prey drive, or working-dog washouts
- Transport. Runs and legs for the dogs we take in, particularly out of California and Texas. Overnight holds along a route
- Fence and property work. Materials, labor, or both
- Grooming, especially for dogs who need handling done carefully and slowly
- Photography. Good photographs get dogs adopted. This is not a small thing
Fostering
We are not placing foster dogs through our own organization yet. That is one of the things we hope to build if we reach nonprofit status. For now, the dogs in our care are fostered by us personally.
If you want to foster right now, we can get you in touch with the rescues we network with. They always, desperately, need foster homes, and they are the reason a great many of these dogs are alive to be placed at all. It is one of the most useful things a person can do in this world, and it is the single biggest bottleneck in all of rescue.
